(Estate) Blackall - Major Robert Blackall, of Coolamber, Lisryan, county Longford is recorded as owning over 1800 acres in county Leitrim in the 1870s as well as lands in Westmeath and Longford. In 1874 he advertised over 1800 acres in the barony of Mohill for sale in the Landed Estates Court. The Irish Times reported that 450 acres was sold in trust. He was a grandson of a Robert Blackall who was of Coolamber in the late 18th century and son of Samuel Wensley Blackall, a colonial civil servant, who died Governor of Queensland in 1871. http://www.adb.online.anu.edu.au/biogs/A030164b.htm

COOLAMBER MANOR, near Lisryan, County Longford, is said to be the finest country house of its era and type in County Longford.Coolamber Manor was built to designs by the eminent architect John Hargrave, who worked extensively in County Longford during the 1820s.The house was built for Colonel Samuel Wesley Blackall (1809-71), though may have replaced an earlier house associated with the Blackalls (Major Robert Blackall, 1764-1855, father of the above, lived in Longford in the late-18th century).Cooamber later became the home of the Stanley family (Burroughs Stanley in 1894); and then the Wingfield family.It was sold in the 1960 and was the only rehabilitation centre and training school for young adults with a disability in Ireland until recently. it has since been resold in 2010 and is now a Private residents and farm It stands on its original splendour,to the front of Coolamber Wood, adorned by landscaped lawns and well kept courtyard and farmyard. - See more at: http://www.irelandxo.com/ireland/westmeath/streete/place-interest/places-historical-interest#sthash.Q5pT0G6d.dpuf
