Sent to school in England in 1831 with William O'Maley, his nephew. Was a chorister in Salisbury Cathedral, and played the flute. Tall, handsome, broad-shouldered, he returned to St Kitts in 1837. Settled with his bride at Greenlands in 1844. Early in the 1850s they moved to Dewars; and Alice and Emma O'Maley went to live at Greenlands. Mr and Mrs Thomas Probyn Berridge later lived at La Guerite. In 1853 he went to England to be trained, at his own expense, for the post of Lieutenant-Colonel of the Militia. Was awarded the Long Service Medal in recognition of all he had done for the militia. May have been named after Thomas Probyn, who was Governor of St Kitts, 1816-1821.
