"SOLOMON RAWSON.
Victoria and its Metropolis 1888
The Upper Goulbourn District.
Rawson, Solomon, Avenel is a native of Dublin who landed in Port Phillip from Plymouth in August 1848 at the age of 22 years.
Although he had numerous letters of introduction to the Colony, he had but little money, and wisely determined to depend on his own exertions rather than on the influence of others.
Being unable to obtain employment in the Drug trade at which he had been some years in Dublin, he went to a large sheep station, and after remaining there for three years was engaged at wool pressing for a short time.
He then joined a party in Melbourne and proceeded to the Castlemaine goldfields, but owing to non success and to the dishonesty of one of the party who had secreted a considerable quantity of gold for his own benefit, Mr. Rawson gave up mining and took an appointment in the gold Commissioners office which he held for three years. After that he was several years connected with the police force, and finally turned his attention to hotel keeping and land selection.
He is now 62 years of age, has had forty years experience in the Colony; is married and has a family of seven daughters."

Solomon Rawson joined the Victorian Police Force 2nd March 1854 and resigned 11th April 1856 Conduct good.
