John Higgins Graham was born on 11 July and baptised on 7 August 1825 at Berhampore[4]. On 7 May 1852 he became a captain by purchase in the 22^nd Foot [5].

John married Sophia Mary IRVINE, daughter of Maj. George St George IRVINE and Frances DOYNE, on 4 Jul 1860 in Ferns, Wexford, Ireland.¹ (Sophia Mary IRVINE was born in 1833 and died on 8 May 1887 in Castle Crine, County Clare, Ireland ⁵.)
