My interest has grown since becoming the new owner of the Wilkinson sword that Major David Fitzgerald Longworth wore once becoming a major due to a field promotion for gallantry. He commanded and led the 1st Batn. 31st Regiment of Foot or Huntingdonshire regt. at the Battle of Sobraun in 1846. The regiment was successful in taking four enemy colours and 220 cannon. A hard fought two hour battle that ended the Sikhs power.

David married Isabella Sophia RATHBORNE, daughter of William RATHBORNE and Penelope Mary BAYLY, on 10 Jan 1849 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England. (Isabella Sophia RATHBORNE was born on 5 Dec 1826 and died on 20 May 1849 in Athlone, Ireland.)
