St Faith's Home for Unmarried Mothers (Maidstone) 1898-1988 UI590/06/2 "St Faith's Home in Maidstone opened in 1899 for unmarried mothers who had previously borne a good character : they are admitted with their babies and remain for one year. The Home receives mothers from the Diocese of Canterbury and Rochester on payment of 7s a week." It was limited to 12 adult inmates and they were allowed to "remain a year in the Home where they are trained for service and are taught the care of their children. Afterwards situations are found for them and foster- mothers for the children."
